Expressions modales

Il existe des expressions MODALES.
Elles expriment, naturellement, l'attitude du locuteur.

LIKELY : PROBABILITE

He is likely to accept.
It is likely that he'll accept.
Il est probable qu'il acceptera.

He is likely to have accepted.
It is likely that he accepted.
Il est probable qu'il a accepté.

SURE/CERTAIN : CERTITUDE du Locuteur

She is sure to win.
It is sure that she will win.
Elle va certainement gagner.

It's sure to have been an error.
It is sure that it was an error.
Cela a sûrement été une erreur.

Pour exprimer la certitude du sujet de la phrase et non celle du locuteur, on emploie :

Elle est sûre de gagner.
She is sure of winning.

BOUND TO = INEVITABLE

He is bound to lose the match.
Il ne peut que perdre le match.

He is bound to have seen you.
Il ne peut pas ne pas vous avoir vu.

LIABLE TO/APT TO : TENDANCE

He is liable to catch colds.
Il a tendance à attraper des rhumes.

My shoes are apt to slip.
Mes chaussures sont glissantes.
